In the upcoming 2010 NFL draft the New York Jets are projected to pick 29th. The Jets hope to get another offensive weapon to complement Mark Sanchez.
The Jets would love another athletic, speedster wide receiver that can outrun any defender and get open to compliment Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery. With explosive receivers as in, Brad Smith, David Clowney and Dustin Keller, the New York Jets don't have that play maker receiver that teams really need to worry about. Not taking anything away from Braylon Edwards, and Jerricho Cotchery but they both haven't really done anything to really stand out as one of the top premiere receivers in the league. But both are still young and fresh so hopefully Braylon Edwards can get his hands up and Jerricho Cotchery can be that play make receiver, but until then the Jets either need to draft a first round wide receiver or trade for a big time receiver as in a player as Terrell Owens.
In the mock draft the New York Jets are projected to draft wide receiver Demaryius Thomas from Georgia Tech. The tall 6-3, 229 pound Demaryius Thomas will be a great fit for the New York Jets. For the Yellow Jackets last season, Thomas had a career best of 46 receptions for over 1100 yards and 8 touchdowns. He led the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets with a 11-2 record and a trip to the Fed Ex Orange Bowl. Even though they fell short in the Orange Bowl to Iowa (24-14) Thomas had a great season and career. In his Yellow Jackets career Thomas grabbed 120 balls for over 2300 yards and 14 touchdowns, and has never once in his career fumbled in a game.
If the Jets were to draft Thomas he should make a very good compliment to Cotchery and Edwards with his play making ability and his athleticism. This will hopefully open the Jets playbook and focus next year not all on running but add another weapon in the passing game. And next year Mark Sanchez will be a year older and will hopefully learn to take care of the ball and not make any bad decisions, so he can expand the playbook and let his receivers and running backs do the work.
