Last week was a hard pill to swallow as the Jets announced last Monday that they were going to release running back, Thomas Jones.
In my eyes Thomas Jones is one of the best running backs right now in the N.F.L, and seemed to be a very big part of the Jets organization. But I guess the Jets still can't past that Thomas Jones is 31 years old, and thinks that he doesn't have that many more good years in him.
I totally disagree in the New York Jets thinking of letting Thomas Jones go, mainly because he just had a break out year last year with rushing over 1,400 yards with 14 touchdowns, and averaging 4.2 yards per gain, while he was 30 and 31 years old. This is also very odd to me because since 2005 Thomas Jones has went over 1,000 yards and is top 5 in rushing yards since 2005 as well. I also disagree with the Jets organization because Thomas Jones has only attempted 2,280 rushes in his career which is very low for a 31 year old running back and has just reached his peak years right about now.
Another reason why the New York Jets shouldn't let Thomas Jones go is also because his commitment in the weight room and his leadership on the team. He also is very reliable, in which he played every game since 2006 and only missed one in 2005 and 2 games in 2004.
Even though the Jets did get rid of Thomas Jones, I'm not that worried about his replacements. With veteran and explosive leader in Leon Washington that can be a major threat in the kick and punt return game and also the running game, the Jets should have no worries. They also have their new and profound star in Shonn Greene, a rookie last year from Iowa that surprised everyone, even the Jets with his great play in the end of the year, which took a big load off Thomas Jones shoulders. So in a sense this does make some sense in why they did let Thomas Jones go, because they feel like they can feed off young backs in Washington and Greene. So hopefully next season Leon Washington and Shonn Greene can work good together, stay healthy and have a big season with no injuries and take what they learned from the years they played with Thomas Jones.
Even though Thomas Jones was probably mad about getting released from the New York Jets, he must be a little happy in which I believe that he will get a huge contract offer and will be getting paid from a team that needs a good running back and will give him a big offer that he can never deny, no matter what team it is. Thomas Jones have had the Cleveland Browns very interested and the very surprising New England Patriots. This will be a good move for Thomas Jones if the Patriots are really considering him, because its a franchise with huge success and respect and a team that is in the New York Jets conference (AFC East) and will play the Jets twice a year, where you know for sure he will want his revenge.
